This will be a full tilt jim vick's BIG MIX show, with just one guy singing, playing, and looping it all "live without a net." I'm excited to finally bring this venture to the other side of town and sharing it with friends I don't get to see all that much.
Be sure to call for reservations!
A special evening at Stash's place with an acroyoga exhibition at 8:00 by Lucid Rain Acro, who are in town to give a workshop on Saturday, followed by a concert by yours truly at around 8:30 with a strong emphasis on my Rumi-inspired Bhakti Blue material, with a few choice covers and a bit of loop jamming on a Punta Rasta tune or 2.
Jammin' with Panama Red John, Jim MacD, Lenny, Mark, and other familiar faces from the Puerto V live music scene to celebrate the fine guitarist's cumpleanos at the little upstairs cafe overlooking the sea.
Kicking off another season at my favorite Cocles venue with what is now a multi-looping one man band, jim vick's BIG MIX, I'll be introducing lots of songs new to my repertoire, including covers by Peter Gabriel, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Simon, Michael Franks, Nora Jones, and Bonnie Raitt. Come join me at the beautifully remodeled and expanded Que Rico Papito Restaurant and Bar for a laid back, chill-out Tuesday evening!
Acoustic set with percussionist Carter Van Houten to open up the evening festivities at Playa Chiquita's first tatoo art and music festival, co-sponsored by C & J Jungle Juice Bar and Cabinas.
The venue is a great performance space, teahouse and bookstore on Bel-Red Road, across from Applebee's. From what I hear, they'll have a great selection of refreshments available. The show will be in Songwriters in the Round format and is sure to include some great vocal harmonies and spontaneous guitar fills - promising to be a very special musical reunion of 3 longtime friends.
We'll do an early and mellow post-happy hour set (while you enjoy Donte's delicious and truly Mexican-style tacos, wrapped in homemade tortillas made fresh for every order) and then, after a short dinner break, come back for an all-out bluesy rock show, featuring Hendrix, Clapton, Franti, Peter Gabriel, and more.
An evening of the new MIX will once again be the soundtrack to elegant dining in the newly expanded and remodeled Que Rico Papito Restaurant, a beautiful work of art in progress that we get to experience first hand every Tuesday night. The place has been filling up the past couple weeks, so call in your reservation!
The new duo finishes up the weekend with Andrew and company for one last reprise of our Christmas show.
The new duo joins Chili Rojo's Andrew and company for one of his famous holiday turkey dinners - a huge favorite of the travelers and ex-pat community here this times of year. And the show will feature our new arrangements of some of the best loved Christmas music of our time. So if you're dreaming of a white pile of chestnuts roasting among the sleighbells, come sing along with us!

Stephen has pretty much talked me into billing our new project "Jim Vick and Friends" because neither of us wants to rule out the likelihood of at least temporary expansion and flexibility in our numbers before long. This project is bringing something very different to Puerto Viejo that we are hoping will attract some great visiting and resident players to come sit in with us frequently, the way the house band at the old Loco Natural did for so many years. In the meantime, the two of us are setting out to present a full band sound between us, incorporating electronic drums, keyboard and organ pedal bass, Hammond organ, and of course lots of guitar sounds - looping everything live as we play. The repertoire is also in revision and will feature more funk, rock, R&B, and world fusion, along with our favorite covers from my solo sets, and of course lots of originals. Come check it out!
with LA acoustic funk/rock trio The Push.
My trio with Portland guitarist TJ Boeschen and Carter V reunites for another evening of jammin' down at the Loco.
Premiere of BHAKTI BLUE with Inyaki, Carter V covering the rhythm section and poet Sandra Isabel Vallejo Rivas performing Spanish translations of all the lyrics.
